Accommodation in Thailand is as diverse as the country itself. This is the place where you can gaze across the turquoise sea from the infinity pool of your boutique Thailand hotel, stay on the cheap in Chiang Mai and pick up some Thai cooking lessons as part of the deal, or relax with the family in at an all-inclusive beachfront resort while your cares drift away under the warm tropical sun – there are so many ways to enjoy your stay in Thailand.

Choose your style of Thailand hotel
Hotels in Thailand range from ultra-luxe 5-star resorts (with 6-star service) to modest places to lay your head in the bustling capital, Bangkok. With such a dazzling coastline and impressive array of islands, it’s no wonder that in Thailand, the beach resort is big. The Four Seasons Koh Samui is one of the most well-known, with airy and elegant villas as well as world-class restaurants and facilities. But Thailand truly is the destination for travellers on any budget so for all the decadent options at the top-end, there are just as many low-cost options for anyone wishing to spend their cash on adventure rather than thread count. Styles of hotel in Thailand include villas, guesthouses, boutique hotels, inns, resorts and village homestays.
Where to stay in Thailand
Your Thailand holiday will mostly likely start in Bangkok, which sets a chaotic pace from the moment you step out of the airport. Many of the city's high-end hotels are located in glittering Silom, including the world-famous Mandarin Oriental, while the equally opulent Peninsula overlooks the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Thon Buri. To the north of Thailand you’ll find the cooler climes of blissfully regal Chiang Mai, while Phuket is famous for its white-sand beaches and party scene, and nearby Krabi offers yet more perfect beaches plus the rock climbing hotspot of Rai Leh.
Best time to stay in Thailand
With Thailand offering a good choice of low-cost accommodation, choosing when to go becomes more about the weather than about when you might be able to land the best deal. While low season is from July to October, this is also monsoon season. The best time to travel, if you want slightly cooler temperatures and dry weather is November to March. Bear in mind that the holiday period over Christmas and New Year is always busy. April to June, or September and October are ideal times to stay in Thailand.
Getting around Thailand
Getting around Thailand requires a little careful planning if you plan on travelling its length and breadth, but is relatively easy if you only plan on walking from your resort to the beach and perhaps to some of the local restaurants. Buses and taxis are the best option for short trips, and travellers should note that choosing to hire a motorbike or scooter when you’re not experienced with Thai roads or road rules is not a wise move. Train routes will take you up to the north of the country, and internal flights are not overly expensive. If you’re travelling out to one of the islands, talk to your travel expert about catching a boat.
