Brisbane Riverfire went off with a bang on Saturday night, proving a spectacular highlight on the Brisbane Festival calendar while also setting a dazzling backdrop for a night of fundraising at the Global Flight Centre Headquarters.
Guests at the Riverfire for Foodbank event were treated to front row views of Brisbane’s night of light under the stars at the 15th-floor rooftop bar in Southbank.
The Flight Centre Foundation is a proud charity partner of Foodbank, which aims to support Aussie families through much-needed hunger relief.
Every ticket to the event included a food hamper donation to the World’s Biggest Hamper Pack Challenge.
A number of VIP viewing spots were also auctioned off to donate more hampers to the cause – promising the most spectacular panoramas of the fireworks displays and aerobatics by the Australian Defence Force’s RAAF Super Hornets and Army helicopters.
Across Queensland, viewers tuned in to catch the spectacular show on Channel Nine, who filmed exclusive television coverage of the event at the rooftop from 6:30pm.
Beyond the Brisbane Riverfire festivities, the Riverfire For Foodbank event itself packed a punch of its own entertainment with special performances from The Voice 2017 winner Judah Kelly and Cirque du Soleil TORUK performers.
The menu for the night was also themed to reflect the partnership between Foodbank and the Flight Centre Foundation – using 'everyday' cuts of meat and items (glammed up of course), drawing on a milk theme (Flight Centre supports Foodbank's long-life milk program with regular donations) and inspired by Foodbank’s purple colour scheme.
Attendees included Flight Centre staff, clients and industry partners, various event supporters and many Brisbane locals in search of the city’s best Riverfire view.
The Riverfire For Foodbank event proved to be a roaring success, with 1,000 hampers donated on the night alone as part of a two-month-long fundraising initiative.
Foodbank is not only aiming to beat hunger, but also make a world record attempt with the World's Biggest Hamper Pack Challenge.
The event, to be staged on October 17, 2017 (for World Food Day), will see 10,000 food relief hampers packed by 500 Flight Centre volunteers in seven capital cities across the country in one day.
